Reducing the disclosure of confidential patient information - guidance for CAG applicants and potential applicants

Module 1 - Do you need confidential patient information?

Some of the common requests CAG receive to use confidential patient information include:

  1. Linking confidential patient information with other datasets or using confidential patient information in order to link one or more datasets.
  2. Accessing confidential patient information within an established database in order to carry out analysis.
  3. Accessing confidential patient information in order to anonymise the information before further analysis.
  4. Accessing and retaining confidential patient information in order to carry out long term follow up.

If one or more of the above describes your application purpose you need to explore if there are any methods that can reduce the extent of confidential patient information required prior to submitting to CAG.
